Stephen Curry and Erick Peytons Unanimous Media to Produce Animated Sports Movie GOAT

Publish date: 2024-07-23

'Bob's Burgers' alum Tyree Dillihay to direct

NBA star Stephen Curry is often brought up in the conversation about GOATs — the greatest basketball players of all time.

While the four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP’s ranking might be debatable, Curry is making his GOAT connection official — by producing a sports comedy movie by the same name for Sony Pictures Animation.

Curry and his Unanimous Media co-founder Erick Peyton will produce the film alongside Academy Award nominee Michelle Raimo Kouyate (“The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story,” “Silver Linings Playbook”), and Modern Magic’s Adam Rosenberg (“Creed 3”) and Academy Award winner Rodney Rothman (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”).

“With ‘GOAT,’ we look forward to uplifting audiences with diverse characters and heartwarming storylines that will have you rooting for the underdog,” stated Peyton and Curry about the movie, which is aimed at families and sports fans alike.

Emmy-nominated director Tyree Dillihay (“Bob’s Burgers”) will direct the film, and Adam Rosette (“Orion and the Dark”) will co-direct. “Fairfax” creators Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley are writing the screenplay.

“As a lifelong fan of animation and sports, ‘GOAT’ is my dream project,” said Dillihay. “We’ve got a modern take on a classic story in a rich new world where amazing happens. I couldn’t ask for a better team of collaborators to help bring this experiential event to life.”

David Schulenburg is co-producing the project, while Rick Mischel and Fonda Snyder will serve as executive producers.

In collaboration with the NBA, Sony Pictures will release “GOAT” theatrically on Feb 13, 2026, timed to All-Star weekend, which takes place in Los Angeles Feb. 13-15.

The movie marks the latest endeavor for Unanimous Media, following the 2023 documentary “Stephen Curry: Underrated,” which debuted at Sundance and chronicled Curry’s rise to prominence, and “Good Times,” an animated re-imagination of the classic sitcom for Netflix. Among the company’s other credits are the children’s book “I Have a Superpower,” the Webby-nominated Audible series “The Greatest Sports Stories Never Told,” NBC’s “Black Pop: The Power of Black Culture” docuseries, the ABC game show “Holey Moley,” and the Oscar-winning and Peabody-nominated documentary, “The Queen of Basketball.”

Dillihay is repped by Nancy Newhouse Porter of Newhouse Porter Hubbard. Buchsbaum and Riley are repped by Mosaic and WME. Unanimous Media is repped by WME and Yorn-Levine.
